2012 Noble Lectures - "General Circulation of the Atmosphere"

May 7 to 11 2012

The 2012 Noble Lectures will be given by Dr. Isaac M. Held, senior research scientist, GFDL and NOAA and Lecturer with rank of Professor at Princeton University.

Dr. Held studies dynamics and turbulence in atmospheric and oceanic fluids, and also the dynamics of our climate with emphasis on global warming. Dr. Held received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from Princeton University in 1976. Since 1978, he has been employed at the GFDL laboratory in Princeton, where over the years he has held the positions of Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, and (currently) head of Weather and Atmospheric Dynamics Group. More information about Dr. Held and his research interests is available on his website.

Lecture Schedule

The lectures will be given the week of May 7th, with a special Physics Colloquium on Monday, May 7th. The focus of the lecture series will be on the dynamics of the atmosphere.

Lectures will take place in the Koffler Institute, room KP 108. Refreshments will be served half an hour prior to the start of each lecture in the lobby, just outside the lecture room. All five lectures will be one hour.

Hurricanes and Climate Change

A reception will be held following the colloquium in the McLennan Physics Building, room MP 110.
