Latest information for the GCC summer school
Accommodation
The GCC summer school will be held at the Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta
from 22nd to 28th May 2004. All participants will be housed at the
Banff Centre (mostly in pairs). Upon arrival at the centre
particpants should check in at the main reception desk, where they
will be given the location of their room.
Getting to Banff
Most participants will be arriving in Banff by air. The closest
international airport is Calgary, and there is a frequent bus service
between Calgary Airport and Banff. Directions from Calgary to the
Banff Centre can be found on the
Banff Centre webpage. That webpage also has information regarding
the bus services from Calgary Airport to Banff.
I will be contacting those people who have given me their arrival time
at Calagary airport to coordinate travel from there to the Banff
Centre.
Payment
The summer school costs C$500 for participants sharing a room and
C$827 for those participants who have requested a room to themselves.
Payment should be made at the summer school in the form of a cheque in
Canadian Dollars, made payable to The University of Toronto. I
will issue receipts to you at the school once payment has been made.
Location
All the activities of the summer school will take place at the Bannf
Centre. The first lecture, on the afternoon of Saturday 22nd May will
be held in the PDC 103 BP Canada Energy room. All other lectures will
be held in Trans Canada Pipeline Room 201. These rooms and their
location can be viewed here.
Agenda
The agenda for the summer school can be found here. Most mornings and afternoons will
consist of 2 one-hour lectures with a 30 minute refreshment break in
between. Some afternoons are designated free time, and on those days
there will be a one-hour lecture in the evening after dinner.
Some lecturers are choosing to make their lectures available for
download before the summer school begins. Their slides will be added
below as they become available. Click on the links to obtain them.
Other Activities
In addition to the lectures during the day, there is also the
ice-breaker reception on the Saturday evening and the banquet on the
Thursday evening. We are also hoping to have some extracurricular
activities depending on the interest. These are unofficial
activities, which are not part of the GCC summer school.
